Chiropractic adjustments (particularly in the lower spine) may help relieve constipation.
Muscles in the intestine push stool to the anus, where stool leaves the body. Special nerve cells in the intestine, called ganglion cells, make the muscles push. These nerves connect directly to the celiac ganglion, which also innervates the stomach, liver, gallbladder, spleen, kidney, small intestine, and the ascending and transverse colon. The celiac ganglion, in turn connects to the spinal cord (and the brain) through nerve roots that exit the spine in the lower thoracic and upper lumbar region.
Pressure on these nerve roots caused by misalignment of the vertebrae in this area may interfere with the normal function of the bowel as well as other organs of the digestive system, causing a host of GI issues.
But don’t just take our word for it. Here are two different moms talking about how Chiropractic has helped their children.
My daughter started having problems with constipation before she was eating solids and once they could be introduced we were told by our Pediatrician to give her prunes but to avoid a lot of the common baby food’s because they would only make it worse. As time went on, her problem didn’t get any better and we were advised to give her watered down prune juice which did not work. We decided to change Pediatricians and see if there were any better suggestions and that only led us to being told to give her Miralax daily. I knew that this could not be the best solution and it was only masking the problem. I began seeing a Chiropractor before she was born and was adjusted throughout my pregnancy. I started seeing Dr. Saylor and after talking to her about my daughter’s stomach issues she suggested that I bring her in. I figured what did we have to lose and it wasn’t going to hurt her any. My only regret was not bringing her in sooner!! From the first adjustment on, my child who would scream and cry anytime she had to go to the bathroom, was no longer in pain. My daughter will be 7 soon and since she started seeing Dr. Saylor she no longer struggles with her stomach issues. She tells me now when she thinks it’s time to go in for an adjustment and when we go together, she always insists on going first. She loves going to Van Every and I as a parent love taking her there! ~ Mandi H. Royal Oak
Thank you Van Every! My daughter Cameron is 7 years old and has always had issues with constipation and having normal bowel movements. She can go days without having to go and when she does she has a very hard time and her bowel looks like hard pebbles. I took Cameron to see Dr. Anna Saylor at Van Every Chiropractic for a consultation and adjustment. Within an hour of arriving home after her adjustment Cameron headed to the bathroom in her usual fashion (Kindle in hand ☺) Instead of Cameron taking 30 minutes in the bathroom, within 5 minutes she came running out of the bathroom saying,
“Mom come on you have to see this! I just had the biggest & longest poop I’ve ever had! Its filling the whole toilet!”
All I have to say is the adjustments they make at Van Every Chiropractic work, my plummer and Cameron can verify! Thank You Van Every and Dr. Anna Saylor, Carrie G. Rochester Hills
