Is Your Headache Related to the Weather?

woman covered mouthAs you know, Michigan can sure have some crazy weather. Have you ever had an ache or pain and thought, “Must be the change in the weather”? If so, you’re far from alone! We see a lot of people that come in for headaches and migraines when the seasons shift.

Believe it or not, extremes of hot and cold are, indeed, one thing that can bring on pain. Our mornings can be extremely cold, while afternoons might have a brightly shining sun. There’s high humidity and dry air, both of which can cause a headache.

The Effects of Pressure Changes

Did you know that the barometric pressure can change your brain chemistry? It increases serotonin in your brain. When your body gets flooded with a chemical, it can cause a toxic reaction. The barometric pressure can even change the way your blood flows! Since it squeezes and condenses things, you might feel it in your joints, skull and teeth.

It feels like a buildup of pressure, such as in your sinuses.

And if you’re one of many women who already carry a lot of tension in their neck and shoulders, that squeeze of pressure can make things far worse.
