We are in a war with technology. Think about how often we are looking down in a head forward posture. People spend hours each day hunched over a computer or staring at a phone or tablet. Also, injuries like car accidents or improper sleep positions can cause neck issues.
Let’s talk about the curve in your neck. It should be a nice C shape. But many people walk around with straight necks and even reverse curves. The curve in your neck gives your body that bounce or play when you walk. Imagine trying to bounce on a straight stick versus a pogo stick.
While chiropractic adjustments will help with the curve, we also love giving you something that you can do at home on your own to help—the Denneroll.
What Is It?
The Denneroll device is an advanced orthopedic tool designed to improve spinal health and posture. It works by creating a gentle, relaxing pressure on the spine while in use. This pressure helps reduce muscle tension, improve joint mobility, and relieve pain.
The Denneroll can also improve that curve in your neck, which will do the following:
- Decrease your forward head posture
- Increase your range of motion
- Decrease your neck pain and headaches
- Reduce muscle tightness
Proper Placement of the Denneroll
Start on a flat, firm surface. If you have lower back issues, you can begin on a bed. But the firmer surface will dramatically increase the effectiveness of the Denneroll.
This device goes at your shoulders, and the peak should go in the middle of your neck, usually at C5. Start with where it feels the most natural and comfortable. Then you can move it up or down to areas that are tighter and feel like they need it more. So you can go to the lower neck or the upper neck as needed. This can take a few weeks to achieve.
These areas might feel a little more unnatural and uncomfortable. Just give it a little time and daily repetitions. If you feel extreme pain or numbness and tingling, stop and text us immediately.
You also want your head to be close to the ground, but not touching it. This allows gravity to help the stretch and make it more effective.
Tracking Your Time
Remember to keep track of your time spent on the Denneroll each session. Set a timer on your phone and start slow at 3 minutes a day, building up to 5 minutes daily. In a perfect world, you would use the device for 15-20 minutes a day, but this will take weeks to build up to it.
Dr. Saylor prefers you figure out what works in your schedule, so you can use the device regularly. It is best to use the Denneroll one time each day and pick a time that is the most convenient for you, and use the device at this time each day. This is the only way to be consistent with your home care.
When you are ready to get off the Denneroll, bend one knee, roll to the side, and without lifting your head, remove the Denneroll and roll back to allow your head to rest for 15-30 seconds.
