Your chiropractic care has now begun! Welcome to Van Every Family Chiropractic Center.
We want to continue to educate you throughout your visits through videos and handouts, so that you can better take care of yourself and your health. Please feel free to share this information with your family or friends, or use it to review when you have questions or concerns about your care. Did you know that the bones in your spine can move in six different directions? Your neck also moves in multiple ways: up, down, side to side and in rotation. Unfortunately, the bones of your spine or neck can also get stuck in any of these different directions. If one of these bones is slightly out of alignment, or is in a state of what Chiropractors call a “Subluxation,” it can cause pain. Not only can it cause pain but it can also cause a number of different problems. We see many different issues that are directly related to these subluxations of your neck and spine. There are many causes for your bones to move out of place, or subluxate. We refer to these as the Three T’s: traumas, toxins and thoughts. Traumas can be as simple as bad posture, severe as a motor vehicle accident, or anything in between. Toxins are all of the things we put into our bodies that we don’t need, as well as what we keep from our bodies that we DO need, like vitamins or the proper amount of water. Thoughts include all the emotional stress in our lives, both at work and at home. Your nervous system functions just like a garden hose, letting energy flow freely throughout your body. When any of these Three T’s are present, they “kink up” your nervous system, just like when a garden hose gets twisted and stops the flow of water, the “T’s” cause your flow of energy to decrease.
At Van Every Family Chiropractic center we use a technique called KST or Koren Specific Technique to correct your subluxations. This technique is very different than a traditional chiropractic adjustment. It is very specific and very gentle. There is no cracking, twisting or popping. We use a handheld tool called the Arthrostim which gently taps the bone into place. In fact it is so gentle, we can easily adjust any joint or bone in your body including your cranial bones. The Arthrostim instrument allows us to adjust many areas that traditional chiropractic is not able to address. Different from traditional chiropractic, we will rarely lay you down on our table. This is because most people do not experience subluxations in this position, and as soon as you lay down your body structure changes. KST uses “positional adjustments”, that is you are adjusted in the position in which you most likely experienced the subluxation. This is why you will most often be adjusted in a standing position, and occasionally in a seated position. We will also use the position in which an injury occurred to best determine how to adjust you. For example, if you tell us that it hurts when you lift your arm, we will tell you to lift your arm and then test so we can adjust you in that exact position or in the motion that it was injured so the pain can go away even quicker.
We use a form of muscle testing to determine what we need to adjust. While you are standing, you will feel us tap or swipe an area on the back of your head called the occiput. We will then get a neurological response from your body that lets us know not only where to adjust you, but also in what order to adjust. It is like a combination lock. You can have all the right numbers, but if you don’t do it in the right order, you will never unlock the lock. So we may adjust the top of your head and then your little toe. Be assured that we are just following the order that your body needs so that we can get you out of pain as fast as possible. An adjustment should not hurt, in fact most people are amazed at how gentle KST is. KST is so gentle that many newborn babies actually sleep through their first adjustment. Most people feel very relaxed after their first visit and even feel like they might need a nap. Throughout the day, you will feel your body processing your adjustment. Occasionally you may feel a little sore after getting adjusted, or you may feel a little worse before you get better. You also may notice sensations in other areas of your body. With KST this is normal and expected.
We are here to help and look forward to getting to know you better. Please feel free to ask if you have questions or concerns. Once again, welcome to our practice!
